I know, I know.

Christmas isn't trees and presents and food...

I know it's about Christ's birth. Our family knows it, too. But oh how we enjoy making a huge celebration out of His birth! We want to shout it from the mountain tops! It's an exciting event that made our salvation possible! It SHOULD be celebrated! But there is a problem...

Let me show you what Christmas looks like here.

This first picture is what it looks like here on a typical day here...

Now for what it looks like during the Christmas season...

Please don't spend time flipping back and forth between the two pictures trying to figure out the differences. There aren't any. And there is the problem.

Christmas is a new holiday here. People are just now beginning to recognize it. Many are interested in celebrating it, but they have no idea what it is about or how to celebrate it. And it is a problem... ahem... a great opportunity to share with them how to celebrate and, more importantly, the WHY!

Christmas is a great ministry time here. People are curious and more receptive to tracts that explain Christmas. They love to celebrate things, and this has opened so many doors to share Christ. On Christmas day we have passed out Christmas tracts and done Christmas plays.

It's a great time to reach out to neighbors...

You just gotta make sure that the goodies you make will not be offensive. Some people here have religious dietary restrictions... including eggs! Most everything Americans bake contains eggs.

It is also a great time to minister to believers, too. Fellowship time!

Last year we invited the students of Hope Baptist College for a fun day of food and fellowship... and games!

It's also a great time to minister to those who minister!

Yesterday we attended the Christmas missionary fellowship. Missionaries from all over the valley got together. We played, ate, fellowshiped, and we had opportunity as individual families to do something special. Our family chose to play and sing a Christmas song. Michaela played her violin. I played the psaltery. Ben and Gabe played the piano. And Jason? Well, we found an instrument we thought he could handle... jingle bells! Ha!

It's also an important time to minister to family...
