Ephesians 4:1 "I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,"
So... What has God called me to? As I have been dwelling on this verse, I realize that I really need to be specific about what God has called me to. Even though my location has changed (by about 10,000 miles) my "vocation" is actually not really any different.
God has called me to five things...
Maturity, Marriage, Motherhood, Making a Home, and Mentorship
Take a look at Titus 2:3-5.
Titus 2:3-5 "The aged women likewise, that [they be] in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, [To be] discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed."
Every one of the things listed in that passage fall into one of these five categories. Even in a foreign country, this is my calling... My vocation. So I need to walk worthy of the calling.
How can I walk worthy of my calling to Maturity? Study, go to church, be faithful in devotions, submit to and obey God's Word, listen to godly counsel, read books that invest in my spiritual growth... Put effort into my growth!
How can I walk worthy of my calling to marriage? Learn what God's Word says about how the marriage relationship should be operated, learn more about my husband, invest time for him and with him, read books that will help my marriage flourish, marriage retreats/date nights, learn how to serve him better and how to show I care better... Put effort into the marriage relationship!
And, similarly, Motherhood, Making a Home, and Mentorship take time and effort... Investing in learning and PRACTICING how to be the best I can be at what God has called me to do. Learn what God's Word says about that calling... Seek godly counsel from Christians who flourish in that area... Invest time and energy in those who are effected by that calling... And most of all, seek God's strength and guidance and help to do what He has called me to do!
Praying to walk worthy today, because He is worthy of my walk everyday.
Romans 12:1 "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service."
